Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Apple, the tech giant, had its own search engine? Rumor has it, that Apple is working on just that! They are reportedly developing a new search engine, named “Pegasus.”

This could mean big changes are coming, especially for users who are used to Google being the go-to search engine on Apple devices. Let’s break down what this means, starting with the basics and moving into the nitty-gritty details.

Why Pegasus?

Apple makes a lot of money, about $8 billion every year, by having Google as the main search engine on its internet browser, Safari. But, if Apple has its own search engine, it could keep more of this money for itself.

Even if Pegasus isn’t as powerful as Google, having its own search engine could still be a win for Apple, allowing it to show its own ads and make money from them.

How is Pegasus Being Built?

A man named John Giannandrea, who used to work at Google, is leading the team that’s working on Pegasus.

They are trying to make Pegasus a part of Apple’s operating systems, iOS and macOS, to make searching smoother for Apple users. They are also using advanced tools, like generative AI, to make Pegasus better and smarter.

Apple isn’t new to making search tools. They have already made search engines for their App Store, Maps, Apple TV, News, and a feature called Spotlight. Pegasus could bring all of these efforts together, offering more precise and connected search results in different Apple apps.

The Tech Behind Pegasus

Apple has some cool tech already, like a web crawler named Applebot that scans the internet to find websites and a team that’s good at making ads. These could help in building Pegasus.

However, it’s important to know that Pegasus can’t do everything that Google can do. But, the work on Pegasus could serve as a starting point if Apple decides to develop a complete search engine in the future.

Conclusion

The idea of Apple making its own search engine, Pegasus, is pretty exciting! It could change how we search on the internet and could bring new things to the table. But, remember, Apple has not confirmed all of this yet.

If Apple does go ahead with Pegasus, it could mean a more connected and smooth experience for Apple users and could also mean more money for Apple through ads.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this story unfolds and what it will mean for the rivalry between Apple and Google.
