Pros & Cons

ProsCons
1) Matter support for compatibility across platforms.
2) Easy and quick setup.
3) Adjustable lighting range without cutting.
4) Numerous illumination presets.
1) Less sensitive microphone limits some features.
2) Control restrictions on third-party platforms and Matter.

Unboxing and Set up

Aqara has made their packaging better in recent years. When you open the box, you’ll find the light on a wheel right away. The instructions are under it, and then there’s the power cord and plug. The plug can be used in the US and UK. I had a little trouble attaching the plug to the wall adaptor, but I managed to snap it on.

The only thing I don’t like much about the light is that you need an Aqara Hub. Some special things the light can do need the Aqara app, which is okay. But it would be nice if more products could connect directly using Matter. If you don’t have an Aqara Hub, I suggest getting the M2 hub – it’s the best one even though it’s not the cheapest. It comes with the most features.

Aqara LED Strip T1 Review: A Home Ambiance Booster

Aqara T1 Light Strip’s Important Features

  • The LED Strip T1 uses Zigbee technology and works with Matter, HomeKit (including Apple’s Adaptive Lighting), Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT.
  • It has RGB CCT technology, showing over 16 million colors and acting as adjustable white light.
  • The 2-meter T1 strip is divided into 10 parts, each with its own colors, dimming, and effects.
  • These strips can be extended up to 33 feet, cut into segments of 20 cm (7.9 inches), and reconnected, making them great for short-term lighting projects.
  • They are also good for certain outdoor use due to their IP44 rating.

Note: You can set up special color effects on the T1 strip using the Aqara app. To use these effects with HomeKit, you need to create a scene on the Aqara app first, then connect it to other platforms. However, this doesn’t work with Matter.

Aqara plans to add a new feature to the Aqara Home app soon. This feature will let you sync Aqara Home scenes with HomeKit and use them in HomeKit setups. I’m excited to personally try out this feature when it’s available.

Final Verdict

To sum up, the Aqara T1 Light Strip offers versatile features that seamlessly fit into various smart home setups.

With its wide color range, individual segment customization, and upcoming Aqara Home and HomeKit integration, it promises personalized lighting experiences. Its adaptability for both indoor and certain outdoor uses, along with its innovative design, positions the T1 Light Strip as a creative and practical lighting solution.
