Google is trying different ways to stop people from using ad-blockers on YouTube. In one test, they told users that ad-blockers aren’t allowed on YouTube. They gave users three choices to deal with this. The first two choices were to change their ad-blocker settings to allow ads on YouTube or to pay for YouTube Premium.
There was also a small “close” button in the top corner, but this was not the main choice. People could click this button to get rid of the message and keep using YouTube.
But now, it seems like Google is making this button less helpful. Instead of just having the close button, YouTube is showing a timer. This means when people see the message, they have to wait for 30 to 60 seconds before they can close it and use YouTube again.
YouTube is trying different things to stop people who use ad-blockers, like uBlock Origin. Not everyone is getting these messages, probably because YouTube is still trying to see how people react.
Now, YouTube has also added a timer to another message they’re testing. This message says that after watching three videos, the video player will be locked and you can’t watch more videos.
At first, this message had a button you could press to close it right away. But now, there’s a timer, so you have to wait for 30 to 60 seconds before you can close the message and watch three videos.
There’s also a third message that blocks you from using YouTube completely. It says ad-blockers break the rules of the website.
Some ways people can try to get around these messages are:
- Watch videos in Incognito Mode with ad-blocking on.
- Use a different web browser with an ad-blocker, like Brave Browser or Vivaldi.
- Use programs or apps like VLC Media Player, SMPlayer, FreeTube, YouTube ReVanced, or YouTube apps for Android.
- Use third-party apps like NewPipe or PeerTube.
- Some ad-blockers will also be updated to work with these messages on YouTube.
Google recently said they will charge more for YouTube Premium. The price went up from $11.99 to $13.99 per month.
